Some people say that the best camping meals are made by the campfire. They leave their gas stove at home and make use of the fire. After hiking, cycling, roaming there is nothing better than warm meal in the fresh air. But at first you must plan what would you like to cook and what type of stuff you need (including meat, vegetables, spices). Sounds difficult? Don’t worry, we have some easy to prepare recipes that will make your camp… a delicious adventure!

Many of camp fans don’t imagine camping without well-prepared steak. So we just have to start our new cycle CAMP KITCHEN with an easy beef steak recipe!

What you’ll need:

Herb butter:

  • Finely chopped garlic (1 head)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, in room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons assorted wild or cultivated herbs (such as chives and/or parsley), finely chopped

The steak:

  • Boneless 2-inch-thick strip or rib-eye
  • Vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Herbal seasoning (optional)

How to prepare herbal butter:

Just mix all of the spices evenly into a room temperature butter. Leave it in a small container or a jar until the butter will be needed to use.

How to prepare the steak:

Prepare the cut of meat. Remove the meat from the fridge around 1 hour before roasting. Rub with a coarse sea salt, fresh ground pepper and herbal seasoning. Set your steak on the grill or above campfire.

There are two ways to handle the steak. The first one: you let the one side do all of its cooking before flipping, or the second way: sear the steak on one side (it is suggested to cook for around 4 minutes per side), flip it over and do the same with the other side. Over a big campfire, the steak will cook quickly, going from very soft (very rare) to somewhat soft (medium) to quite firmly (well done), so control the time of searing. Then remove the meat from the heat and let it rest for at least 3-4 minutes.

Serve your steak on useful enamel plates and add a nob of herb butter. Enjoy your meal!
